Why Paint Instead of Replace

Kitchen Cabinet Replacement Costs $15,000–$40,000. Painting Costs a Fraction of That.

If your cabinets are structurally sound — doors hang straight, boxes are solid, the layout works for your kitchen — painting is the most cost-effective upgrade you can make. Same transformation in appearance, at 10–20% of the cost.

The key is the process. A cabinet job done wrong — painting doors in place, skipping primer, using wall paint — peels and chips within a year. Done right, it looks factory-new and lasts a decade.

Dramatically lower cost

Typical cabinet painting projects run $1,500–$4,500 depending on size and finish. Full replacement of the same kitchen: $15,000–$40,000+.

Done in days, not weeks

Most kitchen cabinet projects are complete in 3–5 days. No demolition, no subcontractors, no extended timeline.

Any color, any sheen

Want white Shaker cabinets? Navy lowers with cream uppers? Two-tone with a contrasting island? We color-match any shade in the Sherwin-Williams deck.

Durable when done correctly

Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel is the same class of coating used on millwork and trim in high-end new construction. Chip-resistant, washable, and holds up in a kitchen environment.

How We Do It

The Cabinet Painting Process

Every step exists for a reason. Skip one and you'll see it in the finish within 12 months. We don't skip steps.

01

Degrease & Clean

Every cabinet surface is thoroughly degreased with a professional cleaner to remove years of cooking grease, grime, and residue. Paint won't bond to a dirty surface — this step is non-negotiable.

02

Sand & Prep

All cabinet boxes and doors are scuff-sanded to give the primer something to grip. Existing drips, rough spots, and brush marks from previous paint jobs are sanded smooth before we ever open a can.

03

Prime

A bonding primer goes on every surface. This is what separates a cabinet paint job that lasts 10+ years from one that starts peeling in two — proper primer adhesion is the foundation everything else sits on.

04

Topcoat (Doors Off-Site)

Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are removed and finished off-site in a controlled environment — no dust, no overspray, no brush texture. We use Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel for a factory-smooth, durable finish.

05

Reinstall & Final Inspection

Doors are rehung, hardware is reinstalled, and every surface is inspected for drips, holidays, or missed spots. The final walkthrough is with Dylan — you don't pay until you're satisfied.

The Paint

Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel

Not all paints are appropriate for cabinets. Standard wall paint — even premium grades — lacks the hardness and blocking resistance that kitchen environments demand. Emerald Urethane is in a different category.

It self-levels to a near-factory finish, is formulated specifically for high-use surfaces, and cures to a hardness that resists chips and scuffs in a way that standard latex paint simply cannot.

Emerald® Urethane Trim Enamel

Our Standard
  • Self-leveling formula — eliminates brush and roller texture
  • Urethane-fortified hardness for chip and scuff resistance
  • Available in any Sherwin-Williams color
  • Satin and semi-gloss sheen options
  • Specifically engineered for doors, trim, and cabinets
  • Cures to a hard, cleanable surface

Every Cabinet Project Includes
