For Home Siding & Shingles

Sherwin-Williams WoodScapes®

Sherwin-Williams' purpose-built exterior house stain for wood siding and shingles. WoodScapes penetrates into wood fiber rather than forming a thick surface film — so it resists peeling, breathes with the wood through Texas heat cycles, and preserves the natural texture and grain of your siding.

Available in solid color for full coverage with a painted look, and semi-transparent for homes where you want the wood grain to show through. Both include a built-in primer — no separate priming step required on most surfaces.

Why It Works

  • Penetrating Formula — Resists PeelingUnlike paint that sits on top of the wood, WoodScapes soaks in. The result: no peeling or flaking, even after years of DFW heat and humidity swings.
  • Self-PrimingBuilt-in primer bonds directly to wood without a separate coat — saves time and money without cutting corners.
  • Solid & Semi-Transparent OptionsSolid hides grain for an even, painted look. Semi-transparent shows natural wood character while adding UV-protective color.
  • Tannin Bleed BlockingSeals in extractives from cedar, redwood, and mahogany so tannins can't bleed through and stain the finish.
  • Mildew-Resistant CoatingBuilt-in inhibitors protect the film against mildew growth — important in DFW's humid summer seasons.
  • Excellent Color RetentionAcrylic resin resists UV fade in harsh Texas sun, keeping your home's color rich and consistent for years.
  • 5-Year Limited WarrantySherwin-Williams backs WoodScapes with a 5-year limited warranty when properly applied.

For Decks, Fences & Pergolas

SuperDeck® Exterior Stain

SuperDeck is Sherwin-Williams' pro-grade stain system engineered specifically for decks, fences, pergolas, stairs, and rails. Standard exterior paint is not rated for these surfaces — SuperDeck is built for foot traffic, water pooling, and full sun.

The formula contains tung and linseed oils that penetrate wood to repel moisture and prevent rot, plus iron oxide pigments for superior UV protection that won't fade. A carnauba-enhanced finish adds scuff resistance on high-traffic surfaces.

Why It Works

  • Purpose-Built for Horizontal SurfacesRated for foot traffic, UV exposure, and water pooling — the conditions that cause standard exterior paint to crack and peel within a season.
  • Tung & Linseed Oil PenetrationThese oils soak deep into wood fibers to repel moisture, prevent warping, and protect against rot from the inside out.
  • Iron Oxide UV ProtectionIron oxide pigments block UV rays at the wood fiber level — not just surface color, but structural protection against sun damage.
  • Apply to Damp WoodCan be applied at up to 25% moisture content — prep and stain in the same day on most projects.
  • Carnauba Scuff ResistanceThe carnauba-enhanced finish is tough against scuffs and scratches on high-traffic deck surfaces.
  • Mildewcide ProtectionBuilt-in mildewcides inhibit mildew growth on the stain film through DFW's humid summer seasons.
  • Flexible FilmMoves with the wood through seasonal expansion and contraction — no cracking, no peeling.

Every Staining Job Starts With Proper Prep

We pressure wash all surfaces before staining, inspect for rot or damage, and apply the right primer where needed before any stain goes on. Stain applied over dirt, mildew, or unsound wood won't last — prep is the job.

Product: SuperDeck® by Sherwin-Williams

Deck Staining & Sealing

A deck takes more abuse than any other wood surface on your property — constant foot traffic, water pooling after rain, UV exposure from every angle, and freeze-thaw cycles through North Texas winters. Standard exterior paint is not rated for these conditions. It sits on top of the wood and cracks when the boards expand and contract. Within a single season, you're looking at peeling, splintering, and moisture damage.

We use SuperDeck® by Sherwin-Williams — a pro-grade stain system built specifically for horizontal foot-traffic surfaces. Its tung and linseed oil formula penetrates wood fibers to repel moisture from the inside out, iron oxide pigments block UV at the fiber level, and a carnauba-enhanced finish resists scuffs and scratches. A properly stained deck in North Texas lasts 3–5 years before needing a recoat.

Finish Options

Semi-Transparent — Preserves the natural grain and texture of your wood while adding UV protection and color. Best for newer decks or decks with wood character worth showing.

Semi-Solid — More color pigment than semi-transparent, but still shows some wood grain. Good middle ground for moderately weathered decks.

Solid Color — Full color coverage that hides grain. Best for heavily weathered decks or boards that have been previously coated. Also available with SuperDeck's Cool Feel IR Reflective Technology — reduces deck surface temperature by up to 20°F on dark colors.

Maintenance Cycle

A properly stained deck in North Texas typically needs a recoat every 3–5 years. SuperDeck's penetrating formula means you can recoat without stripping down to bare wood — the next application bonds to the existing finish. Dylan will let you know at the final walkthrough when to plan for the next cycle.

Why Not Regular Paint?

Exterior house paint forms a rigid surface film — it does not flex with the wood. Decks expand and contract significantly with DFW's temperature swings. Standard paint cracks, peels, and traps moisture underneath within one season. SuperDeck's penetrating formula moves with the wood, so it won't crack or peel.

Product: SuperDeck® by Sherwin-Williams

Fence Staining & Sealing

Wood fences are exposed to conditions no other surface deals with: ground moisture wicking up through the posts, wind-driven rain soaking into end grain, and UV cooking them from every direction with no shade relief. An unprotected fence greyes, warps, and begins to rot within a few seasons. A fence coated with the wrong product — ordinary exterior paint — peels within a year because the wood movement is too much for a rigid film to handle.

We use SuperDeck® by Sherwin-Williams for all fence staining. Its tung and linseed oil formula penetrates wood fibers to seal from the inside out — repelling moisture, preventing rot, and resisting the UV damage that causes greying and cracking. Because it penetrates rather than films, it moves with the wood through seasonal expansion and contraction without cracking or peeling.

What's Included

  • Pressure wash to remove mildew, algae, dirt, and oxidation from all surfaces
  • Inspection for rot, broken boards, loose rails, and failing posts
  • Damaged boards or structural issues identified and addressed before staining
  • SuperDeck® applied to both sides where accessible
  • Gates, posts, rails, and pickets all included in the scope
  • Semi-transparent or solid finish based on your preference and wood condition
  • Final walkthrough before payment

The Ground Contact Problem

Fence posts set in the ground are in constant contact with soil moisture. This is the #1 cause of fence rot. SuperDeck's oil penetration formula seals the wood from within, significantly slowing moisture intrusion at the most vulnerable points — the posts, rails, and end grain of each picket.

Maintenance Cycle

Vertical fence surfaces hold stain longer than horizontal deck surfaces — expect 4–7 years between recoats with proper prep and application. The biggest factor is sun exposure: south- and west-facing fence runs will need attention sooner than shaded areas.

Why SuperDeck vs. Paint

Standard exterior paint builds a film on the wood surface — it has no flexibility when the wood moves. A fence in North Texas goes through extreme seasonal wood movement: 100°F summers and hard freezes. SuperDeck's penetrating formula flexes with those changes. A painted fence typically needs repainting within 2–3 years. A properly stained fence lasts 4–7 years between recoats.

Pergola Staining & Sealing

Pergolas are one of the most neglected outdoor structures homeowners have — and they're one of the most punished. Overhead beams and rafters sit in direct, unbroken sun exposure for hours every day. The wood bakes in Texas summers, absorbs moisture in spring rains, and is never shaded from above. Unprotected, pergola wood turns grey and begins cracking within 1–2 seasons.

We use SuperDeck® by Sherwin-Williams for all pergola staining. The iron oxide UV protection in SuperDeck blocks sun damage at the fiber level — not just surface color, but structural protection against the cracking and checking that breaks down pergola members over time. A stain-and-seal job every few years keeps your pergola looking great indefinitely.

What's Included

  • Full cleaning and prep of all wood members — beams, rafters, posts, braces
  • Inspection for checking, cracking, loose fasteners, and structural issues
  • SuperDeck® applied to all exposed surfaces including overhead members
  • Semi-transparent finish preserves natural wood look while adding UV protection
  • Solid color option available for pergolas that have already greyed significantly
  • Posts, decorative braces, and any attached benches or planters included
  • Final walkthrough before payment

What Happens Without Protection

Unprotected pergola wood turns silver-grey within 6–12 months as UV strips the surface. Checking and cracking follows as the wood's surface dries faster than the interior. Once deep cracks open, moisture gets inside, and rot follows. Catching a pergola before it's fully greyed and before deep checking sets in is key — the job is far simpler and cheaper at that stage.

Maintenance Cycle

Pergolas in full sun typically need recoating every 3–4 years. Shaded pergolas can go 5–7 years between applications. Dylan will assess your pergola's sun exposure and existing wood condition at the estimate and give you a realistic maintenance timeline.

Restoring a Greyed Pergola

If your pergola has already greyed out, it's not too late. A thorough pressure wash with an appropriate wood brightener restores the wood's natural color before staining. Dylan will assess whether cleaning alone is sufficient or whether a wood prep product is needed before SuperDeck application.

Wood Siding & Shingle Staining

Homes with cedar siding, wood shingles, clapboards, or board-and-batten have a different staining need than decks and fences. Vertical surfaces like these don't take foot traffic, but they do face years of UV exposure, rain infiltration, tannin bleed from cedar and redwood, and the relentless Texas heat cycle.

For all home siding and shingles, we use WoodScapes® by Sherwin-Williams — their purpose-built exterior house stain. Unlike deck stains engineered for horizontal surfaces and foot traffic, WoodScapes is specifically formulated for vertical wood siding. Its penetrating formula soaks into the wood grain rather than sitting on top, eliminating the peeling and flaking that plagues film-forming products applied to siding. Built-in tannin blockers seal extractives in cedar and redwood so they can't bleed through and stain the finish.

What's Included

  • Pressure wash to remove mildew, oxidation, chalk, and surface contaminants
  • Inspection for rot, failed caulk, and any areas needing repair before staining
  • WoodScapes® applied in solid or semi-transparent finish (your choice)
  • All siding surfaces, trim boards, and shingles included in scope
  • Self-priming formula — no separate primer coat required on most surfaces
  • Solid and semi-transparent options to match your home's character
  • Final walkthrough before payment

Solid vs. Semi-Transparent on Siding

Semi-Transparent WoodScapes — Lets natural grain show through. Best for cedar siding, shingles, or any home where the wood texture is part of the aesthetic. Color is present but grain remains visible.

Solid Color WoodScapes — Full color coverage with a rich, painted appearance. Better for siding that has been stained before, for a clean uniform color, or for hiding surface inconsistencies. Still penetrates rather than films — so it doesn't peel.

Cedar & Tannin Bleed

Cedar siding is prone to tannin bleed — the natural extractives in the wood migrating to the surface and staining through the coating as brownish streaks. WoodScapes has built-in tannin blockers that seal these extractives in before the color coat goes on. Most other stains and paints require a separate tannin-blocking primer on cedar, which adds cost and a step. WoodScapes handles it in one pass.

Maintenance Cycle

WoodScapes carries a 5-year limited warranty from Sherwin-Williams when properly applied. Real-world performance in the DFW climate is typically 5–8 years before a recoat is needed on vertical siding, longer on shaded elevations. Sherwin-Williams coordinates WoodScapes colors with SuperDeck so deck and siding colors can be matched across your property.
